Sunita Maharjan received her BFA from Kathmandu University Centre for Art and Design in 2009. She was the recipient of KCAC artist in residence scholarship in 2010. Based in Kirtipur, Kathmandu, she has been working as an art educator since 2010. Her art practice is in paintings but she is also interested in three and two dimensional works and weaving. She uses threads, straw and plastic strips for her tactile works. Since then she has participated in collaborative art projects, workshops and exhibitions. Maharjan was one of 21 Nepali artists to exhibit in the 2nd Kathmandu International Art Festival. She worked as the artist-in-residence for 2 weeks in Marpha in 2013. She is co-founder with Sanjeev Maharjan of the Drawing Room an art space for children and adults.
